A Walking Itinerary Through Naples — From the Seaside to the Heart of the City

Starting from the Royal Hotel, turn left onto Via Partenope and enjoy a scenic walk along the seafront. In just a few minutes, you’ll arrive at two of Naples’ most iconic squares: Piazza del Plebiscito and Piazza Trieste e Trento. Here, you can visit the majestic Royal Basilica of San Francesco di Paola and the historic Royal Palace.

Just steps away stands the renowned Teatro di San Carlo, facing the elegant Galleria Umberto I. Walking through the gallery leads you to Via Toledo, a central artery of the city. From here, you can reach the famous Diego Armando Maradona mural, nestled deep within the lively Spanish Quarters.

If you continue to the end of Via Toledo, you'll reach Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, the gateway to Naples' historic center. In this area, you'll find a concentration of must-see landmarks, including the Church of Gesù Nuovo, the Monastery of Santa Chiara, Piazza San Domenico, and the extraordinary Sansevero Chapel, home of the “Veiled Christ”.

From here, follow Via San Biagio dei Librai (Spaccanapoli), the vibrant spine of the old city. After a few hundred meters, turn left to reach San Gregorio Armeno, the world-famous “street of the nativity scenes.” Nearby, you'll also find the entrance to Napoli Sotterranea, offering a journey beneath the city streets.

Continuing along Via San Biagio dei Librai, you'll arrive at Via Duomo, where the impressive Naples Cathedral (Duomo) is located. Just a short walk further is Rione Sanità, a culturally rich district known for its striking urban murals, the Catacombs of San Gennaro, and the atmospheric Fontanelle Cemetery.

To return to the Royal Hotel, we recommend using Line 1 of the Naples Metro, with connections via other lines or the city funiculars, depending on your current location.
